The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) led by Commissioner Kim Wan-ki announced that it will hold an on-site communication meeting at SK Hynix’s Icheon Campus (Icheon Gyeonggi Province) on Thursday October 24 at 1:30 PM. The meeting aims to enhance the intellectual property (IP) competitiveness of the semiconductor industry.

This meeting has been organized to listen to the IP-related suggestions from the semiconductor industry by visiting SK Hynix a leader in High Bandwidth Memory (HBM)* technology which is seen as the next major opportunity in the semiconductor memory market.

High Bandwidth Memory (HBM): A type of memory that vertically stacks DRAM to achieve high bandwidth and transfer speeds primarily used in artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
KIPO and SK Hynix will share insights on industry trends and IP developments in the HBM field and discuss issues related to technology and intellectual property as well as challenges faced by the industry.

Kim Hee-tae Director of the Semiconductor Examination Promotion Division at KIPO commented “As the AI market is experiencing explosive growth the HBM market which supports the computational power of AI accelerators is also expanding rapidly. This is expected to intensify competition among companies to secure market share and leading-edge technology. KIPO will continue to closely communicate with the industry to help our companies secure competitive patents in the memory sector.”
